Our families are what we are born into. We automatically belong! Our families are meant to love, support and nurture us! We become who we are, as we grow up in our families!
But, all this can change when we accept Jesus into our lives. All of a sudden, this family who loved us, supported us and cared for us may turn against us because we have left the family way, left traditions and culture to follow the Way, Truth and Life that is Jesus!
New believers in Christ need to realise that when they accept Jesus into their lives, they may face persecution and rejection from their family members and close relatives. Jesus warns us about this in the Bible.
These are the verses mentioned in the video.
Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matthew 10:21-22
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 10:34-39If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:26
(the Greek ‘miseo’ translated ‘hate’ means ‘detest’, ‘despise’ and ‘abhor’)You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.
Luke 21:16
I pray that you will be encouraged by this video and will draw nearer to Jesus if you find yourself in this position.
God bless you all.
Thank Sri 🙂
So true. Thank you. I come from a very strict Catholic family, which is not Christian.
Keep holding on to Christ Barbara.
Sri
I all also come from a Catholic family and it has been very hard.
Hi Rachel,
I can only imagine. Just hang in there. Jesus started His good work in you and He will see it through to completion. Don’t stop loving your family as Christ would want you to and don’t stop praying for them!
God bless you!
Sri
