The rainbow is not just a beautiful phenomenon in nature; it also has a very important and deep spiritual truth attached to it!
I was on my way to a prayer meeting Saturday morning and was struggling spiritually. You see, I had yet again fallen short of the glory of God and disappointed Him, something I am very good at. My spirit was downcast and my heart was contrite and seeking God’s forgiveness and feeling very blue and sad that I had made God sad again.
In Lamentations 3:22-23, the Bible tells us:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I was in desperate need of God’s love and compassion that morning and as I was about to turn to get on the freeway, this beautiful rainbow caught my eye!
Immediately, I was reminded of the covenant God made with Noah in Genesis, after God destroyed all the wicked people with the great flood! This covenant or promise was not just for Noah and only for that time, but it also applies to me and Christians today and for all generations!
As Christians, we can never sin so much (not the same as living in sin!) or fail God so much that He will leave us and walk away from us! In Romans 8:38-39, the Bible reminds us:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Through the rainbow, God reminded me of His love for me, His compassionate and merciful heart and lifted me up from the depths!
Dear Christian, if you are struggling as I was, may the Lord remind you as well that He loves you and cares for you deeply, even when you fail Him!

Open up your Bible to Genesis 9:11-17 and read this story about the rainbow.
I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
