Where do babies and young children go when they die? Do they go to Heaven? Yes, yes they do!

Let me say that again, in case it didn’t sink in the first time.

[box] Yes, when babies and young children die, they go to be with God in Heaven.[/box]

And I’m not just taking about babies/children belonging to Christians, I’m saying this truth applies to all babies/children everywhere!

I’m not telling you what you want to hear.

I’m not just being optimistic.

I’m telling you the truth I have learned from God’s Word, the Bible.

So, why am I so confident? Where in the Scriptures does it say this?

Turn with me to Deuteronomy 1:39:

[box] And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad–they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.[/box]

If you’re wondering how I’m drawing my conclusion from a verse that says nothing about Heaven or babies/children going there, let me explain.

The context of Deuteronomy 1:39 is Moses telling the Israelites that Joshua will lead them into the promise land, except for those who didn’t believe that God would give them the land flowing with milk and honey and Moses, who was not allowed to enter as punishment for his disobedience.

The promise land is the land God promised the Israelites, when He delivered them from the hands of the Pharaoh. This was meant to be the best of the best, unlike any other place, a place where Israel could flourish and be blessed.  The promise land is Heaven.

It doesn’t take much to see that in  Deuteronomy 1:39, God clearly states that the children will enter the promise land or Heaven, because they don’t know good from bad.

Let’s have a quick look into the New Testament and see what Jesus has to say about children.

In Matthew 18:2-6, we read this.

[box] He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.[/box]

And in Matthew 19:14,

[box] “Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”[/box]

There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that God/Jesus loves children and has great regard for them.

I could go on, but I don’t think I need to.

Based on what is written in the Scriptures, in faith, I believe that babies and children go to Heaven.

God decided this, I didn’t.

As always, I welcome questions/discussions, but not meaningless and time wasting arguments that benefit no one.

So, for all the parents out there who’ve had to face the unimaginable tragedy of losing a child, be comforted and at peace, knowing that your precious little one is with God in Heaven.

[box] When I shared this post on Facebook, it led to a lot of discussion, and I felt that I needed to clarify a few things.

If we were to die and our bodies remain here, there’s the question of where our spirit and soul would be, the part of us that is who we are, aside from our physical body/tabernacle. So, when we die here on Earth as a Christian, our spirit and soul returns to be in the presence of Jesus/the LORD. Our bodies remain here and will not be resurrected until He returns, at which point, we get glorified bodies (just like the body Jesus had when He rose from the dead). This applies to babies (including abortions) and children who don’t know good from bad yet (God makes that call, not us). Refer to Philippians 1:23-24, 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 as to what the Bible has to say.

It also raised the question about people who die without knowing Christ or ever hearing the Gospel. This question is an interesting one because no one, except for the person/people group in question and God, knows if they’ve ever heard the Name of Jesus or not. In the end, we know that God is just and that He can reach people in natural as well as supernatural ways to reveal Himself, like those who are visited by Jesus in dreams and visions and turn to Him from that encounter. In the end, God alone knows.
