Victory comes from surrender

Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit. Luke 23:46

Jesus, who did nothing wrong, willingly endured undeserved suffering for sinners like us who truly deserved it all.

As Commander of the LORD’s army, Jesus could have summoned legions to His aid, but He didn’t.

Instead, Jesus humbly surrendered to the will of God the Father.

If anyone wants to follow after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. Luke 9:23

The LORD has placed us where we are in life, doing what we do, surrounded by the people He has put in our lives. The cross we must take up is to live our lives as the LORD desires, reflect Jesus’ character in every aspect of life, do the good works He has planned for us, and share the Gospel with the lost. It is impossible for us to do all this in our own strength. Jesus made this abundantly clear when He said that apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Just as Jesus entrusted the Father with His spirit, so must we entrust our spirit to the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can help us combat our sinful nature—our words, thoughts, actions, and attitudes that go against God—and live victoriously in Christ. This means daily meditating on God’s Word, praying, and seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit.

True strength for a genuine Christian and disciple of Jesus Christ comes from daily surrendering to the Holy Spirit, which is also a work of the Holy Spirit.

May the LORD help us do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
