Windows 7 is the latest and greatest (quite comfortable and confident in saying that!) client operating system from Microsoft.
It has been out since October of 2010 and statistics (not numbers I gathered myself :)) show that 1 in 3 PC’s are running Windows 7 and over 350 million licenses of Windows 7 has been sold to date. With the release of Service Pack 1, Windows 7 has clearly established itself in the market.
Why should this matter to you?

I have been running Windows 7 on my Toshiba laptop (Intel Core Duo T2500 2Ghz Processor, 3GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 Video Card) which is over 5 years old now and it runs like a champ with Windows 7. In fact, I can safely say that Windows 7 on my laptop blows away both Windows XP and Windows Vista (when I had those installed and running on my system). I have even installed various Linux OS on my laptop, but I will talk about it another day.
What am I trying to say here?
Don’t worry if you think your desktop or laptop is too old. If you have purchased your system in the last 5 years, it will run Windows 7 beautifully! In fact, I can confidently say that it will run Windows 7 better on your system than it did Windows XP or Vista.
